Naples to Positano: compare the routes

Compare four common approaches to Positano: EAV train plus SITA bus, a seasonal ferry, the Curreri airport shuttle plus a connecting bus, or a pre-booked private transfer. The right choice depends on where you start in Naples, your travel date, luggage and arrival time.

Curreri's airport shuttle goes to Sorrento, not directly to Positano. No route guarantees late hostel check-in: room check-in is 15:00–22:00, while reception closing at 22:30 is a separate fact.

For November 2026 airport travel, check your airline and current airport notices: runway works were announced, but exact closure dates and arrangements were not yet approved or defined at the 29 September review.

Compare the complete journey

Train + SITA bus: Napoli Piazza Garibaldi to Sorrento on EAV, then a bus towards Amalfi stopping at Positano Chiesa Nuova. Add the current fares for both legs and allow for the transfer; do not rely on the old €7.20 combined estimate.

Ferry: compare the operator's sailing for your date from Naples Molo Beverello to Positano. Check any vessel change, luggage charges and the onward uphill journey from the beach-level port.

Airport shuttle + SITA bus: Curreri lists Naples Airport–Sorrento at €13 as checked on 29 September 2026. The onward SITA ticket is separate; confirm both departures before choosing this connection.

Private transfer: obtain a written quote for your party, luggage, exact pick-up and destination. Availability, waiting charges and late-arrival terms must be agreed with the provider; this guide does not promise a fixed fare or round-the-clock service.

EAV train + SITA bus

From Napoli Centrale, follow signs for the EAV service at Napoli Piazza Garibaldi and check the train for Sorrento. Piazza Garibaldi and Porta Nolana are different stations. At Sorrento, confirm the SITA bus towards Amalfi and ask for Positano Chiesa Nuova / Bar Internazionale.

Check EAV rail schedules and SITA bus timetables for your date, including the final usable connection. Do not infer a SITA route's ticket class from a regional price table alone.

Use the Naples to Positano train and bus guide for the connection and the Chiesa Nuova arrival guide for the final approach.

Ferry from Naples Molo Beverello

Use the operator's Naples–Positano route page to check the sailing date, current price, baggage allowance and whether you need to change vessels. Seasonal dates differ between operators and years; do not assume a universal April–October season.

Sea conditions can change the service at short notice. Follow operator and port instructions and have a land-based alternative whose connections also work on that date.

Positano's ferry port is at beach level, below the hostel. Plan the uphill transfer and luggage handling before choosing the boat: Naples centre to Positano by ferry and ferry dock to Hostel Brikette.

Curreri airport shuttle via Sorrento

Curreri's official shuttle page lists the airport boarding point, departures, booking conditions and a €13 Naples Airport–Sorrento fare at the 29 September 2026 review. This is not the total price to Positano.

The published airport-to-Sorrento timetable at that review showed 75 minutes for the shuttle leg, but traffic can extend the journey. Allow separate time for the SITA connection, the bus to Positano and the walk to reception.

Check the complete connection in the Naples Airport to Positano guide. For November 2026 travel, also check the latest airport announcement and ENAC statement; do not plan around an assumed closure date.

A pre-booked private transfer

A transfer can reduce the number of changes, particularly with luggage or a group. Ask the provider to confirm the vehicle, passenger and luggage capacity, meeting point, complete price, flight-delay waiting terms and cancellation conditions.

Give the destination as Hostel Brikette, Via Guglielmo Marconi 358, Positano, and agree a suitable road drop-off. A car journey does not make the hostel step-free: the entrance approach includes stairs.

Do not assume that a driver or the hostel can accept an arrival at any hour. Check transport availability and the 15:00–22:00 room check-in window before booking; if your journey cannot fit, arrange an alternative overnight plan rather than assuming late self-service access.

Choose from your actual arrival details

Starting at Napoli Centrale: compare the EAV-plus-SITA connection first, using current fares and the departures you can realistically reach.

Landing at Naples Airport: compare Curreri via Sorrento with other currently advertised options. Include baggage collection, delays and the onward connection rather than treating landing time as departure time.

Considering the ferry: check the seasonal sailing, any vessel change, weather and the uphill arrival from Positano's port.

Arriving late or carrying substantial luggage: ask for a confirmed transfer quote and check the hostel arrival window. There is no universal 20:00 cutoff that proves which transport options are available.

For the return, see Positano to Naples by bus and train or Positano to Naples by ferry, and follow your carrier's check-in guidance.

FAQs

What is the cheapest way from Naples to Positano?

Compare the current EAV and SITA fares with the full ferry or transfer cost for your date and party. This guide does not certify a fixed cheapest fare; airport access, luggage charges and the final uphill transfer can change the total.

Can I reach Positano from Naples at night?

Check the exact final connections or arrange a confirmed private transfer. Do not rely on a universal early-evening cutoff or assume vehicles are available at any hour. Brikette room check-in ends at 22:00; confirm a workable arrival plan before travelling.

How long should I allow?

Build the journey from the current timetables, including waiting, changes, traffic and the final walk. Curreri's timetable at the 29 September 2026 review showed 75 minutes from the airport to Sorrento alone; reaching Positano and the hostel takes additional time.

Which bus stop is closest to Hostel Brikette?

Use Chiesa Nuova / Bar Internazionale. The approved hostel guidance is about 120 m / 390 ft / three minutes to reception, including stairs—not a step-free route. Follow the arrival directions and do not identify it merely as the first Positano stop regardless of your direction of travel.

Does the Curreri airport shuttle go directly to Positano?

No. The Curreri service described here goes to Sorrento, where you need onward transport to Positano. Other operators and seasonal services may differ; check their current advertised route rather than assuming this describes every airport service.
